Short Biography

Bao Zhao is a tenure-track professor and PhD supervisor at Beijing Institute of Technology in Zhuhai. He leads the Multifunctional Autonomous Structures and Systems (MASS) Lab. Before joining Beijing Institute of Technology, he was an RGC Junior Research Fellow and a Distinguished Postdoctoral Fellow at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University hosted by Prof. Songye Zhu. He received his PhD in Structural Mechanics from ETH Zürich supervised by Prof. Eleni Chatzi and Dr. Andrea Colombi.

Research Interests

Our group is broadly interested in autonomous structures and systems. Current research topics include:

• Integrated energy harvesting and control, including power electronics and electromechanical systems
• Distributed intelligent sensing, including structural health monitoring and sensor technologies
• Autonomous intelligent structures and systems, including self-powered AI and self-sensing systems

• 2017–2020: MEng in Microelectronics and Solid-State Electronics, University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (joint training with ShanghaiTech University)
